It's not a secret that I can't keep a secret. I have a hard time not spilling the beans about surprises. Which is the worst for people who really like the element of surprise, and the best for all my friends that beg me to tell them what's going on. Before I go any further let's flashback two years. Caitlin had her mission call and wasn't planning on leaving for the MTC for another two weeks. We had planned an awesome Disneyland trip to go on with our group of friends for the weekend before she would leave. As luck would have it the MTC called and asked her if she'd come in two weeks early. Of course she went. And of course we still went to Disneyland. I felt bad, but man that trip was awesome. I wrote her in the MTC and tried to downplay how awesome it turned out but she totally knew. We had the time of our lives all while she was studying spanish and preparing to enter the mission field.
I promised myself then that I'd make it up to her. After all, Caitlin is not only my best friend, but one of the best humans out there. She definitely deserved a trip to the happiest place on earth. I started donating plasma again a few months ago for this trip. I knew it was the only way to justify a mid-semester trip on my very meager college student budget. Next step was finding a free weekend. One that was all figured out I told her we were taking a girls trip to visit my sister in Las Vegas (who she is also really great friends with). We excitedly drove down Friday afternoon and rolled in around 7:00 PM. I ended up telling her late that night of our plans. It went something like "CAITLIN WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!" and then an ensuing amount of "YOU ARE KIDDING" "HOW DID YOU DO THAT" "WHAT RACHEL YESSS."
And then Saturday happened. And it was the most magical day. Just like they said it would be.
